Tenuate Retard works by stimulating the hypothalamus gland and affects certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite. Tenuate Retard stimulates the central nervous system, which increases your heart rate and blood pressure. Because Tenuate is chemically similar to amphetamines, it has the potential for psychological dependency so it should be used with caution.

Tenuate Retard comes as a regular and extended-release (long-acting) tablet. Tenuate usually is taken three times a day, 1 hour before meals (regular tablets), or once a day in midmorning (extended-release tablets).
